Vintage Place
Security in the Cluster

Vintage Place is an idyllic neighborhood in Reston but can't escape crime. All residents are encouraged  to work together to help make the neighborhood undesirable for any sort of criminal activity. Report any suspicious activity to the Fairfax County Police and store the non emergency # in your cell phone, 703-691-2131.

Crime always goes up when the weather is more cooperative. In the past few years, Reston has seen a significant increase in thefts from cars. There are many things that you can do to help reduce thefts, deter burglary and prevent or reduce auto theft, just to name a few!

AT HOME:
  • When returning home, try not to leave purses, cash or keys near an entryway.
  • Promote safety by using the exterior lights on your home as well.
  • Lock your doors, even when you are home
  • Keep garage doors closed
  • Secure your bicycle with a lock everywhere you leave it, even at home
  • Record and keep all serial numbers from your electronic equipment
  • If you notice suspicious persons or activity, call the non-emergency police number (703-691-2131) and report it.
VEHICLES:
  • Lock vehicle doors at all times. Most thefts from cars occur in UNLOCKED cars.
  • Park vehicles in well lit areas
  • Do not leave valuables in vehicles!
  • Do not leave keys in vehicles!
  • Items that must be left in vehicles should be kept hidden from view
  • Don't leave items of value or garage door openers inside unattended vehicles and ensure your vehicle is locked.
  • The reason people steal personal belongings from your car is because they see something they want. Remember, what is not valuable to you may be the object of their desire.
PLEASE take the extra time to physically remove your cell phones, laptops, tablets, GPS, purse, etc. from your vehicle. Remove any empty bags or briefcases to relieve the criminals’ curiosities.

Home Safety Assessment
Please be aware that you can receive a free home safety assessment where someone from the Reston station will come to your home and make recommendations and offer suggestions to better safeguard your home. Call the non emergency number at 703-691-2131 to set an appointment.

Traffic Safety
Vintage Place is a community with many children and pets. There have been several complaints regarding people speeding and not obeying traffic signs. Please be considerate of your neighbors and their safety and obey all traffic laws before regrettable incident occurs.

Safety Resources and Tools
There are many resources and tools available to Vintage Place residents courtesy of Fairfax County. Please make note of the following:

-On the Reston District Police Station web page you will find links to on-line reporting, neighborhood news, station information, the Reston Reliance and other information at: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/police/stations/reston

-In partnership with the County’s Office of Emergency Management, the public is also invited to sign up to receive police alerts on a variety of their electronic devices. A new public safety category on the Community Emergency Alert Network (CEAN) enables the police to send geographically targeted alerts, to include timely information on significant criminal incidents in neighborhoods and important announcements. There is no cost to sign up to receive the alerts and residents may sign up at: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/cean/.

-The Citizens' Advisory Committee provides a forum for citizens to express concerns about specific areas, provides a forum for obtaining citizen input about the delivery of police services and provides a formalized process to facilitate citizen and community cooperation with the police. If you have any interest in this, meetings are held at the Reston District Police Station on the third Thursday of every month at 7:00 p.m. There are no meetings in July or August. For more information on this call 703-478-0904.
